Context- This newsletter was created in CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into the Classroom. It was created under the guidance of Dr. Jeff Goodman during the spring semester of 2007. The newsletter was created so that I can effectively communicate with parents and students about what is happening in the classroom.
Impact- This article will help my students get to know me better at the beginning of the year. The section that they fill out to tell me about them will enable me to get to know a few aspects of my students. I can quickly learn a few of their main interests and can utilize those interests in my teaching. The newsletter will also enable parents and guardians get to know me. They will feel more comfortable having me teach their children if they know a little bit about me. Being open about myself at the beginning of the year will also help to create stronger relationships with parents and guardians.
Alignment- This newsletter helps me meet the following requirements:
NCDPI Standard 16, Indicator 3- The newsletter enables me to create a form of contact, other than phone calls, with guardians. If I provide guardians information about me they will feel more comfortable with me. In my future classroom I can send out a newsletter once a month to remind guardians of special dates to remember, ways that they can help, and projects the students are working on. The parents/guardians will have a way of knowing what is going on in the classroom and what I expect from the students.
NETS-T V-C- The newsletter is a way for me to use technology to increase my productivity. Instead of constantly calling parents to remind them of classroom activities, I can send out a mass newsletter that addresses all of their questions. I will have much more time to be productive in the classroom if I use the newsletter to give information before it is asked for.
NETS-T V-D- The newsletter is a way for me to use technology to communicate with my peers and the community to nurture student learning. I can show the newsletter to other teachers and administrators to tell them what is happening in my classroom. We could also adopt a school-wide newsletter to send to parents asking for volunteers, guest speakers, or supplies. A newsletter would enable the school, or individual classrooms, to address their needs and the needs of their students while telling parents and the community how they can help.
