Class of 2018

Molecular Biology major

Chemistry minor

Lab research has been imperative to my growth as a student, scientist, and human being. Working in a lab gave me the ability to test my knowledge and skills in a real time setting, instead of just through tests and textbooks. Experiential learning also gave me a better understanding of how the scientific community operates and I am far more knowledgable on new scientific discoveries and news.

I cannot understate how important research was for me. Being able to test my skills in lab has challenged me more than any classroom has. My knowledge has greatly increased and my way of organizing and processing information has also improved. In addition, lab work has also enhanced my understanding of the real scientific community and how papers are published. Experiential learning has also pushed me to increase my work ethic, responsibility, and independence. I believe that I am more mature, driven, patient, and aware of the world around me than I was before.

My experience working in research labs has been extremely enjoyable and enriching. I believe that guidance from my professors, mentors, and peers has instilled in me the necessary experience, knowledge, and work ethic to be a successful scientist and handle the rigors of the field. Once I graduate from Loyola I plan on applying to graduate school to obtain my PhD in Molecular Pathology. After my post-doc my goal is to earn a professorship at a university and later open my own oncological research lab.
