EDA 540 - ISLLC 2,3,4,6 (The Principalship)

APAS 4,5 (ISLLC 2,4)- required (Critique of your school’s emergency plan - A Better Plan-Module 4)

In this paper I examined the emergency procedure manual for Hondo ISD, which includes Meyer Elementary School, and compared the procedures with the Texas School Safety Center’s recommendations for best practices. The manual was prepared by district personnel this summer, and is up-to-date in using all recommended best practices, but because it is new there are minor conflicts between what is posted on the website and what is contained in the manual. Therefore this report includes recommendations for improving access to the emergency procedures for parents and community members.

Arizona Professional Administrative Standard 4, Performance Indicator 16 is met in this assignment by having plans in place for emergencies, which will promote and ensure a safe learning environment. Applying the legal requirements of keeping students safe also demonstrates the requirements for Arizona Professional Administrative Standard 5, Performance Indicator 12.

This assignment also fulfills ISLLC Standard 3 referencing issues relating to school safety and security, creating a safe environment and proactively identifying potential problems.

APAS 4 (ISLLC 2,3,6) -required (Staff Evaluations - Module 5)

This paper examined the evaluation tools used in the Hondo Independent School District for both teachers and principals. Each tool was compared, and suggestions for improvement were made.

Arizona Professional Administrative Standard 4 is demonstrated in this assignment through the requirement to manage programs and operations. Performance Indicators 4 and 9 are met by using the evaluative process to meet internal and external expectations and using staff evaluations to improve the performance of individual members in a positive manner.

ISLLC Standard 2 is covered with this module’s references to recognizing accomplishments of staff and employing a variety of evaluation models. ISLLC Standard 5 is also touched upon by a discussion that relates to professional ethics.
