TPE 8- Learning About Students

Two teens (Lg.)

Having open communication is the most effective way of learning about students.  In general, I strive to maintain an open environment where students feel comfortable to approach me and discuss issues that concern them.

To initiate this dialogue, students filled out information cards with their personal information and responded to a question that stated, "why are you taking this class."  This feedback allowed me to gain a better understanding of my students and the various concerns and perspectives in the classroom.

Furthermore, I use various methods to obtain feedback from students including: journal reflections, questionnaires, self-evaluations for participation, and class evaluations.  Examples of these responses are attached.
