I strive to maintain a caring, approachable, and neutral relationship with all students. This is important because of outside factors that affect student learning and behavior in the classroom. When a student misbehaves or has had numerous absences, I have a one on one discussion with my student to determine how we as a team focused on learning will deal with the situation. I maintain confidentiality when my students approach me with personal issues. I also post crisis hotlines for students to call in case of an emergency in my classroom.
As an environmental science instructor, I complete outdoor activities with my students on a weekly basis. In order to comply with legal obligations, I have informed all parents of instances that we may be leaving campus together as a class and have collected permission slips signifying their consent.
