How data will be used

The data that I collected daily in the form of formative assessments and feedback from students helped to shape my daily lesson plans. That was the most important way that I used that data. The data that I collected from the pre and post assessment shows me that the methods that I used to teach these students really worked for them. If I were to keep teaching this same class of students, I would feel confident enough to say that they are ready to move on to more topics in linear equations. I believe that the data I collected from student J and student I (the only students who did not meet all objectives), would help me to create a plan to help these students met the learning objectives they did not meet. This might include lunch tutoring, or after school tutoring, but because both of these students made great learning gains I strongly believe that with some extra assistance they could meet all of the learning objectives for this unit.

After sharing my data with my cooperating teacher, he decided not to give the exam he was planning on giving his students over the whole book. He said that the scores were so high that he was just going to play a review game of the whole book instead of giving a test. That was how he chose to use the data, and if I were the actual classroom teacher I think I would have used this data in the same way. Except for the two students who needed a bit of extra help, the whole class seemed confident in this topic.

As far as future planning goes, I think I would structure this unit in much the same way. One thing my cooperating teacher mentioned to me is that it would be nice if I could include more visuals. I wrote a lot of things on the white board, but he said the students might do even better if there was a slide show or a video that I could have included. I think for future planning of this unit I would try to come up with more visuals. I think that my future planning will also depend a lot on my students. This data is very useful to plan future lessons for these students because I can make simple modifications to my teaching methods to help them improve even more such as offer more visuals or recalculate how many days should be spent on each concept. All of my students made great gains over the course of this unit, but I would have to consider more than just this data if I were planning this unit for a different class of students.
