Reflection:
This assignment turned out to be quite different than I expected. Our group purposefully took pictures that were unrelated so that the students could be more creative in tying them together. I was surprised to find that this aspect of the assignment made it extremely difficult for some students. Because they saw no connection between the pictures, they could not create a feasible story line in their minds. Some children seemed quite overwhelmed. Conversely, some children did thrive with the assignment and took full advantage of the diversity of the images. The students that enjoyed the assignment (which was the vast majority) enjoyed it a great deal. It is very rare, if ever, that these students are given the opportunity to write with no restrictions. I gathered this from the quizzical looks at the beginning of the assignment juxtaposed by the wide grins toward the end of the assignment. Collectively, I believe that the students did quite well with this project and learned at least some about technology, parts of a story, and creativity.
