All types of children’s literature from outstanding authors are surveyed through synopses and actual reading of children’s books to acquaint the student with the best stories and poems for use with children. Methods of using these types of literature and the techniques of storytelling are also studied.

i)        Create a compare/contrast matrix and discuss the similarities and differences of a traditional folk or fairy tale that is presented differently by other cultures or by non-traditional versions. The story of Cinderella is used as an example in the required website reading, so you must select a different story.

ii)       Your comparison should include the following sections at a minimum:

(a)    Introduction and conclusion

(b)   Compare/Contrast Matrix: refer to required reading websites for ideas for creating the matrix

(c)    Literary Criteria: plot, character, setting, theme, and style.

(d)   Discussion: compare and contrast the similarities and differences based on the findings noted in the matrix

(e)    Annotated Bibliography: a list of at least five books that might also be included in the comparison that are different versions of the popular tale selected for the comparison. Each entry must include the full bibliographic record as well as a brief description of the book.

iii)     Use standard essay format in APA style, including an introduction, conclusion, and title page. An abstract is not required. Cite in-text and in the References section.
