Brief autobiography
I was born in Texas, but I spent 25 years of my life in Argentina as the daughter of missionaries. Music has always been a vital part of my life, whether at home, at church or at various events. My early musical experiences were singing as a family on road trips or before church congregations on furlough, playing my guitar and singing a folk song at a school function, learning to sight sing at the conservatory I attended as an adolescent, singing trios with my two sisters, singing around a campfire in my youth, playing the accordion during worship, and singing in choirs, to name just a few of my recollections.
In August, 2007 I moved from North Carolina to Florida to be near my extended family after my divorce. As soon as I qualified as a Florida resident I enrolled in FIU to pursue a degree in Music Education. The location was good and three of my nieces have degrees from FIU and had spoken well of it. I looked online and was pleased with the Music Program it offered as well as the cost of tuition, compared to other institutions, so I applied and was accepted.
I have an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, from Argentina, and several years of experience as an educator. I have always loved interacting with children and encouraging them in their development, but over the last several years I have come to realize that I am more passionate about sharing the joy of music with them than I am about teaching them anything else. My last job in NC was modeling music and movement activities for childcare providers in Henderson County, and my first job in FL was teaching music at St. John’s Episcopal School in Homestead. Both of these experiences served to confirm my vocation for music and my desire to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.
This picture was taken in 1960, shortly after our family moved to Argentina. Both of my parents are musical and filled my life with musical experiences. I chose this picture to depict their positive influence in my life.
