"Grow seeds, grow!"
-Rowan
This week in Farm & Garden, we prepared our classroom for spring! We began by reading Eve Bunting’s Sunflower House, a book about planting an awesome fort-like garden made completely out of sunflowers, and the life cycle of a plant.
On Tuesday after we finished reading, we had small group talks about what we know about plants and what they need to survive. From our conversations at the beginning of the school year, we remembered that all living things need at least water and air. Plants also need soil and sun to grow and flourish. We started the project by putting soil into our containers, planted our peas and sunflowers, and gave them a healthy drink of water. Then we put them in the sunniest window in the classroom and said “grow, seeds, grow!”
On Wednesday after we read, Emily had the entire class crouch down and pretend like they were seeds underground. Once she showered them with rain and sunshine, they could grow, slowly, stretch outwards, and tell us if they could be any plant, what they would be:
