Resident Educators are required to be observed by their RE Mentor at least one time in their second year of Residency. The Orange School District HIGHLY RECOMMENDS that Resident Educators engage in 3 Instructional Cycle lessons that are observed by the RE Mentor. At least one of these lessons MUST BE videotaped and analyzed together in a collaborative meeting.
If the Resident Educator elects to complete ONLY ONE Instructional Cycle Lesson then he/she must use the RESA Task #1 practice document and must respond to ALL prompts contained on the practice document. The Resident Educator may elect to complete the entire OCSD Instructional Cycle Lesson document for 1-2 lessons, or may elect to complete various portions of the document across 2 separate lessons, if they are opting to engage in 2-3 observations throughout the course of the year. The RE Mentor and Resident Educator Mentor will meet to develop and implement the plan of action that each RE feels is most vaulable and dcoumentation will be gathered, uploaded and submitted accordingly.
Outlined below are several possible options:
Option 1: Engage in ONLY 1 COMPLETE Instructional Cycle lesson using the RESA Task #1 practice document : (not recommended, but if selected, 1 observation completed in Spring and MUST be videotaped:
1. Resident Educator must answer EVERY prompt on the RESA Task #1 practice lesson document and provide corresponding video and evidence.
2. Once all lesson documentation has been completed, RE will save copies in his/her RE year 2 folder and then will upload and save all lesson dcoumentation to Taskstream and submit for evaluation (again only "met" or "not met" criteria is used).
Option 2: Engage in Portions of the Instructional Cycle across 1-2 observed lessons and also complete RESA Task #1 practice document for 3rd observation :
1. RE Mentor and Resident Educator meet to review prompts and questions on the Instructional Cycle Lesson document and determine which areas to focus on for each lesson (first 2 lessons). It is imperative that ALL questions and prompts be addressed and documented throughout the course of the first 2 lessons being observed and RE is encouraged (but not required) to videotape at least 1 and preferably both of these lessons). The RE must also complete the ENTIRE RESA Task #1 document and that lesson is required to be videotaped.
2. If the RE elects to complete 2 lessons, Lesson 1 will be uploaded in the "Fall" lesson entry (optional), Lesson 2 will be entered in the "Winter" lesson entry (optional, but highly recommended) and Lesson 3 (RESA Task #1 practice) will be entered in the "Spring" entry (required).
Option 3: (HIGHLY recommended for all Year 2 REs): Engage in Completion of 3 FULL Instructional Cycles: (with at least 1 observation recommended before first OTES evaluation whenever possible):
1. RE elects to complete the entire OCSD Instructional Cycle lesson document and collects corresponding student evidence and resources and creates a videotaped lesson to reflect on and analyze with his/her RE Mentor for each of the two lessons (Fall, Winter).
2. RE also completes the entire RESA Task #1 Practice lesson document and collects corresponding student evidence and resources and creates a videotaped lesson to reflect on and analyze with his/her RE Mentor for this lesson (Spring).
2. If the RE elects to complete all 3 lessons, each lesson is completed and uploaded as described above in Option2: Lesson 1: = Fall, Lesson 2 = Winter, Lesson 3 = Spring.
Meet with Mentor and Select Instructional Cycle lesson format that will be most beneficial for the RE and submit to meet this requirement.
