I. Overview – Internship I

The Internship I experience (EDUC 494: Teaching Internship I) is housed in Phase II and is completed during the Block II semester. During this field experience, candidates will complete a 6 week internship in PDS school, working with an assigned mentor teacher and university supervisor, for a minimum of 30 days.  Prior to the internship, candidates will make a pre-practice visit to the school and will complete an induction experience (Fall) or several preparation days (Spring). During the Internship I, candidates are expected observe and collaborate with the Mentor Teacher, gradually performing all professional and teaching responsibilities in the classroom, culminating in 5 full days of planning and teaching, 3 of which must be consecutive. A University Supervisor will also formally observe each candidate on at least two occasions. In addition, candidates must complete Block II course assignments, a Service Learning project and other field assignments outlined in the handbook.
