2nd Six Weeks Geography

Tuesday/Wednesday 10-06-09/10-07-09
1. WarmUp: Define vocabulary words related to culture
2. Powerpoint over culture and discuss terms (CScope)
3. Show examples of culture traits and pass out ABCs of culture
4. Have students complete "My Culture Handout" and Culture Diagrams
5. Cooperative Group - in groups of 3, students will pick one aspect of culture/culture trait and look through National Geographic Magazines to illustrate the trait. They will make a small collage on card stock.
Examples of traits: language, ethnicity, belief systems, economic activities, political systems, art/music, technology, customs

Thursday/Friday 10-8-09/10-9-09
1. Warm Up: page 135, Building Social Studies Skills #1-4
2. Powerpoint over globalization and discussion. After students will complete a 2-minute quick write summarizing the meaning of globalization and its implications
3. Cooperative Groups - groups of 3-4 - pass out to each group a set of pictures and articles over an ethnic group. Allow time for each student to read the articles and study the pictures. Have groups complete the Image/Reading Analysis Worksheet.
4. Project pictures of each ethnic group and allow student groups to share their analysis.
5. Read an example of an "I Am Poem" Have students in groups brainstrom and summarize their group by writing an "I Am Poem" over their ethnic group studied.

2. Complete historical timelines started last class period.
3. Complete a culture quilt of the U.S., showing cultural features of the U.S.  (planned but not completed last class)

Wednesday/Thursday 11-4-09/11-5-09
1. Students will use the textbook and Cscope powerpoint to discover information over the regions of the United States. political, physical, economic, and cultural
2. Complete charts as they discover the information
3. Map the information that they have found on to a map of the U.S. to illustrate the regions in a visual form.

Friday 11-6-09
1. Finish map over the regions of the U.S.
2.Label a map showing the provinces and territories of Canada. They will also use the textbook and cscope powerpoint to find polical, physical, economic, and cultural informatin about each region and illustrate this on the map of Canada.

Monday/Tuesday 11-09-09/11-10-09
Chapter 8 & 9 Bookwork: section reviews and chapter reviews for both chapters

Thursday 11-12-09
