My Academics

“My Academics” is a place for me to develop a road map for college based on my educational goals and major exploration. I will develop a plan for accomplishing my academic and extracurricular goals and reflect on the skills I will need to succeed in.

I think though out my college year I have multiple aspiration in which as a person, I hope to gain purpose of becoming someone, who everyone in my family is proud about and that it will shape me to becoming a better and more independent person. As a student, I hope to learn and grow as a student, to challenge myself to be the beat that I can, in hopes that my knowledge expanse to its full potential, but this will need great attention to be successful. My aspiration as a citizen, I hope to benefit the world somehow in a positive way. As well as, acquiring some skills which I can use to potentially inspire or support those who are part of the community and that will help the overall status of being a global citizen. As for my professional aspirations, I hope to gain the maximum strength and knowledge of my chosen careers skills to insure I can be the most effective to benefit any of my employers. I would want to become a professional myself from the experiences and knowledge being put into my education. The two IUPUI PUL’s I thought would most be relevant to me would be critical thinking and integration and application of knowledge. Critical thinking is the ability to apply the processes of disciplined thinking by remaining open-minded, reconsidering previous beliefs and actions, and adjusting his or her thinking, beliefs and actions based on new information. I think that being open-minded is very useful because of how it helps me with trying new things and that to experience more. As for my careers, it will benefit me on of course on my gained experiences and on how my ideas can be developed to its high potential. For integration and application of knowledge, I think that it goes great with critical thinking, in which the knowledge that is obtained gets put into use, to positively change my way of thinking and that it will assist me in my future career for facing problem solving tasks.

Based upon the Tip Sheet #3. I found out that my 3 Holland codes were RAI. With these letters, I was able to discover a few majors which have relations to them and that they were Environmental Science, Music Technology, Geography, Computer Graphic Tech and Biology. At the beginning of the year I was all over the place with my thoughts about my careers, but even though I am still not so sure now, at least I haves somewhat narrowed down my thoughts about my choices yet I’m also open to others. Right now, I am currently interested in something in the music field or some life science.  I have discarded multiple careers hat I found unappealing, which were Environmental Science and Geography, I learned that being an Environmental Scientist does not relate themselves to working with animals but instead the earth itself. On the other hand, I have discarded Geography because it requires a very high level of mathematic and that I have a very low interest in numbers, sort of speak. I prefer not to deal with numbers but it’ll be at the minimal part of the major I choose. I had great interest in Zoology in high school and that It was interesting to learn all about the animals. I also enjoyed playing music because I joined multiple music groups in high school and that I am passionate about it as well.

As for some courses, I’ve found the most interesting were Genetics & Molecular Biology Lab, Cell Biology Lab, Ecology/ Evolution Lab, Music Theory and History, Music Tech Labs and Musicianship Skills. I also found some which seem difficult were Gen Ed Analytical Reasoning, Gen Ed Core Communication Writing Competency. These seems difficult because my weakest point of skills is writing and math. I also don’t enjoy doing them because of how I am not as strong in those fields of work. These are some of the skills I must develop further to push myself to my full potential. I need to read a little more to work on my spelling and my grammar usage. As for my math, I should find a way to be more interested in studying and learning math in general. I usually pass all my math classes but never found the joy of continuing to learn it. Based upon ASPIRE Module 3.1, I was grouped as a Giver(NF), saying that the best learning style for me is that the materials must stimulate my imagination. I am a very creative person, this styles of learning suit great because it fit in the careers for music, imagination is needed to help to create new and original pieces of music. For life sciences, imagination is also needed to assist with coming up with new ideas to solve problems and to develop effective ways to work, so that it can be done efficiently. I can see that as my success goes, I think I’m going to get by, not failing or overly achieving. I am at a 3.5 GPA at this point, to succeed I should keeping it in between 3.0-4.0. To sum up, I need to face my weakness, to challenge my skills so that I will work harder to build up my skills to it maximum potential to benefit me soon.

I will explore further in the musical field because of my passionate feeling for it and that I will explore more on science which relates to animals. I have to look at either Indiana University and Purdue University or stay. IU for its Jacobs school of music if I want to expand my musical knowledge as a musician. Purdue for its Zoology course and that I want to explore more of what they offer relating to this field and of course staying if I want to pursue Music Technology. My concerns are still the same, such as the fear of not like my life the way that it got decided and also my family is expecting a lot from me, I’m concern that I won’t be able to fulfil that requirement. I learned a good amount about myself this past semester and those are my lack of organizational skills and the lack of my usage of resources. Next semester I will use more of my resources to help me be organize. I will need a growth mindset to develop better ways I can use to benefit me as a student. I need to procrastinate less in the future, I will need to keep track of the online assignments as well getting use to using the website to check homework and assignments. The next course I will take are English w131 because it is required. Math 11100 because it is my next math class I need to take. I will need these to complete my general education credits for the year. I’m not sure about of my other courses because I am jumbling around on what I want to take and that I might be transferring to a different university.

As for right now my I want take out my general education credits and that I want to explore further. However, transferring would be nice, I will need to look for the Jacob school requirements to get accepted, if I want to attend Ball State I can because I have an easy transfer through them, where I don’t require anything to be accepted. It might be a lot harder to get in to Purdue, since the school is very competitive and difficult to get into. Most of the requirement are need to done before the end of December, but I am still unsure to transfer now that I am in the middle of the semester change.

The two Ride Experience letters I feel that is useful is R for Undergraduate research and E for Experiential learning. Both would relate to my majors on gaining more knowledge of career and to push my studies further. I will seek to develop for ways to enhance my learning abilities to its maximum potential and that R and E will assist me with. Increasing my ability to learn will enhance my ability to accomplish my desired field, meaning that it will be beneficial to the company I work with.
