Where & When?

Where are the TEACH! UrbanSouth classes held?

This site-based program runs at Brockton High School (nationally recognized!) during the spring and fall semesters (February 2012 - June 2012, and then September 2012 through January 2013).

In the past, we have run our summer session classes in the Taunton Public Schools.  During Summer 2012 (July and August), summer classes may run at Parker Middle School in Taunton, MA.

 


When are applications due for Cohort IV?

Application materials were due by January 16, 2012.  However, the deadline has been extended!  Please contact Tyra Lopes Mendes directly for more details at tlopes@umassd.edu or (774) 929-3038!  Thank you!

 


What is the timeline for Cohort IV?  When do we start and when would we finish?

The Cohort starts its coursework in February 2012 and will run through January 2013, including the summer session.  Face-to-face sessions are currently scheduled on Wednesdays* (4:00-6:30pm) at Brockton's West Middle School during the spring semester; locations, dates and times of summer courses (including online components) will be determined soonBy January 2013, you will have completed all of your coursework that leads to your initial teaching license.  You will also have completed 70% of your coursework leading toward your Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree.

* Wednesdays during the Spring 2012 Semester & Thursdays during the Fall 2012 Semester.

 

One Year Timeline for the 2012 TEACH! US Cohort (schedule may be modified slightly):
 
February 2 - 4, 2012
  • Program Orientation AND EDU 500 launch
February 2012 – May 2012
  • EDU 500 - Fundamentals of Teaching and Learning (Wednesdays)
June 2012 - August 2012
  • EDU 511 - Contemporary Instruction (TBD; delivered face-to-face and online)
  • EDU 512 - Teaching and Managing Inclusive Classrooms (TBD; delivered face-to-face and online)
  • MAT 513 - Urban Education and Social Issues (TBD)
September 2012 - January 2013
  • One CONTENT METHODS course (course number depends on your initial license content area)
  • EDU 525 - Integrated Reading Literacy and Content Methods Middle/Secondary (Thursdays)
  • EDU 532 - Practicum course (one Thursday and one Saturday per month; both face-to-face and online)
