Fitness

Context:

This lesson plan was developed under the supervision of Dr. Jankowski in HED 3645 in the summer of 2006.

Impact:

As a teacher I will have to learn about the different parts of the body as well as how the body works.  I am a very athletic person and like to play volley ball.  I understand that it is important to stretch before playing so that the muscles do not get sore during physical activity.  I also understand that being fit is imporatant especially now.  It is so important that the government has mandated that there must be atleast 30 minutes of physical activity in the school day.

Alignment:

Standard 5: Elementary teachers have an understanding of the major concepts of healthful living.

Indicator 1: Teachers understand the foundations of good heath and help students understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

Indicator 2: Teachers are alert to major health issues related to children.

I met indicators 1 and 2 of standard 5 by teaching the students about the muscles in their bodies and showing them activities that they can use to keep healthy.

Standard 13: Working alone, or with healthful living specialists, elementary teachers create opportunities for student development and practice of skills that contribute to good health.

This standard was met when talked to the students about good health and what it means to keep active.  Playing an organized game during recess was a good to keep them moving.
