Standard 5.1 Professional growth, reflection, and evaluation

Math Observation (Odd/Even Numbers) This artifact meets ACEI Standard 5.1, because it is my reflection and evaluation of a math lesson that I observed in my host classroom. The lesson was on odd and even numbers, and I was able to evaluate the lesson both during, and afterwards while I was writing my paper. This lesson and paper also allowed me to reflect on the methods that I observed for teaching students odd/even numbers, and how I planned to do so in my future classroom.

This artifact appeals to me because it was the first lesson I had ever observed in a classroom. It was the first time that I saw methods that I learned in EDU 373 actually being applied in a classroom. Also, by writing this paper, I was able to reflect on various methods used during the math lesson, on what I can use in my future classroom. This observation/paper was a great way to get ideas.

Social Studies Observation (Types of Government) This artifact also meets ACEI Standard 5.1, because it is my reflection and evaluation of a social studies lesson that I observed in my host classroom. This lesson was on types of government, (Democracy, Dictatorship, and Monarchy). While observing the lesson, I was able to evaluate the students' learning. And, I was able to reflect back on what went right during the lesson while I was writing the paper.

This artifact appeals to me because it was the first social studies lesson I had ever observed, and the first paper I had written on a social studies observation. Social Studies is the most interesting subject to myself, so it was very interesting to see how the students learned during a social studies lesson, and reflect on that later in my paper. Also, by evaluating the lesson, I was able to get ideas of my own for future teaching a social studies lesson, which I found to be very beneficial.
