Standard 2.1 Reading, Writing, and Oral Language

Teaching Literacy This artifact fits ACEI Standard 2.1, because it reflects on how I wish to someday teach literacy. The artifact addresses areas such as reading, writing, and oral language, and how to teach these areas in a classroom. While writing this paper, it was the first time that I sat down and thought about how I was going to one day teach literacy, and the methods I was going to use to do so.

This artifact is important to me because in LIT 371, I learned many great techniques for teaching literacy, and by writing this paper, I will be able to look back and use the techniques that I now believe are wonderful. This paper was also the first time that I looked at the word literacy as more than just reading. I finally understood that the word literacy involves many areas other than reading, and it is a complex word that can easily be broken down if you have the right tools. This paper shows others, as well as myself how I plan to approach this seemingly complex area, and allows myself to look back one day and evaluate myself on whether my opinions as of now are really the best approaches.
