Grade Level: This project can work for any grade level, as long as the students are properly taught how to use the video camera. The project can be adapted to be appropriate for any grade level as well. For instance, as a college student acted out words such as "lucubrate," 1st grade students could act out a word such as "excited."
The value of using this type of media project in the classroom, is that it integrates technology with certain aspects of English such as vocabulary. It can improve the comprehension of more difficult vocabulary words. By doing this project with a partner, a classroom full of children could learn approximately twelve new vocabulary ways. I can foresee this project having a strong impact on student learning. It would help engage the students into doing a content knowledge assignment. They would be having fun while learning with the use of technology. There may be certain issues with students who do not know how to use a video camera. In that case, it would not take long to take a few minutes outside of class to teach them so they are at the same pace with the class. This media project will help solve problem solving skills by allowing the students to create their project on their own. They will be taught how to use the camera, given the vocab word, and then be on their own from there.
The main goal of this project is to integrate English with technology in a fun, interactive way.
As said before, the integration of subject matter does occur. Technology is integrated with English. This has addressed cultural responsiveness teaching, because the teacher will be able to adapt the lesson to meet the needs of students who are diverse and need extra help due to the lack of the use of technology.
The learning styles that will most likely be attracted are visual, audio, and kinesthetic. The students will be creating their iMovie by using auditory and visual skills while having the opportunity to move around.
The instructional strategies that have been utilized are, the decision making process since the students are given a project, and then left to decide how they approach it. It also utilizes multiple intelligences since it is formed to meet students needs with various multiple intelligences.
Assuming the students have been taught how to use the video camera and iMovie program, this is a very self-paced project. The students will be given a certian amount of time however; it will be enough time for them to pace themselves and create their own project.
Due to limited time in classrooms, it would be best if this was a group project. That way, three to four people can split up the various tasks to produce the movie.
Students will be assesed on:
a) The creativeness of the iMovie
b) The effects of the iMovie (sounds, images, visuals)
c) The use of the vocabulary word (appropriate, correct)
d) Meets the deadline
e) Various roles of each person
