Project #3: Wiki

Annotation (Wiki)

Authors of the project: Randi Vaseleck, Nicole Franklin, Angelia Saraceno, KayLeigh Bliss

Since it is a Wiki site intended for use by the student and parent, it can be useful for any grade level. Site content will change with each grade level however. For example, there will not be test dates on a site for Kindergarten and there will not be a snack list for grade six.

This website benefits the student, parent, and the teacher. It is an easy way to be interactive within the classroom. For parents that can not make it to the classroom, important information and dates can be accessible. Also, it allows the reduction of paper waste. Instead of sending ten papers home with each child, announcements can simply be posted online. I also feel it will impact student learning because it will eliminate forgetting important assignment dates. You can lose a piece of paper with dates on it, but it is hard to misplace a website.

The main goal as stated before is to bring the whole classroom community together by simply using a website. Also if the teacher wants to integrate subject matter, he or she can create a classroom blog.

While this website will attract all learning styles, it is also important to remember that all homes do not have access to a computer. Because of this, information will need to be distributed accordingly.

This is a project based primarily for the teacher to create and students/parents/caregivers to use. However, if the grade is appropriate, students can learn how to create their own Wiki which would then most likely be a teacher-directed media project. Using this project in the upper grades can be done individually or with groups depending on the content.
