I have gained much knowledge from the organizations that I have been a part of. When I attended and volunteered at the annual Asilomar Mathematics conference by Monterrey, CA I was blessed with a plethora of math related activities, teaching methods, and networking opportunities that have already helped me in the real world as I have seen people who I met at Asilomar here in Oakland. Those same people have given me leads as to who is hiring in Oakland. I have also successfully taught lessons that I learned while at the conference.

Edutopia is an organization founded by filmmaker George Lucas based on his desire to improve education in K-12 schools and also implement new technologies within the curriculum. There are many resources for teachers to improve their teaching from either the edutopia magazine that teachers may subscribe to, or from their web site that has lesson plans, networking opportunities, event calendar, videos and grants. It is funded by the George Lucas Educational Foundation and private donations. I have been invited to teacher focus groups, however I have not been able to actually attend. The focus groups participants are given a stipend and meet in San Francisco, the head quarters of the George Lucas Educational Foundation and Edutopia.
