Tyler and Nikki

    Nikki and Tyler were best friends. They grew up next to each other and were always together. They lived in the east shore way. Out of nowhere Nikki’s mom told her that they were moving to the west shore way. Their last few days together, Nikki and Tyler spent their days in the tree house that Nikki’s dad made. They couldn’t believe that soon, they wouldn’t be able to see each other every day, Tyler couldn’t help Nikki with her homework, or that Nikki didn’t have to listen to Tyler’s crazy stories. One night, Tyler was reading to himself. He looked out of his window, just trying to picture how things would be. Nikki was leaving tomorrow.

    The next morning Tyler was trying to delay Nikki leaving. He put things into the car slowly. But it didn’t help. Soon they ran out of things to put in the car and it was time to say goodbyes. Everyone was sad, but Nikki was the only one crying. This was the first time Tyler has ever seen Nikki cry and he really didn’t like it. As they hugged each other goodbye, Tyler whispered in Nikki’s ear. He said that no matter what happens they will always be friends, that they would find a way to see each other.

    As Tyler was sitting in his room, he thought about the promise he made to Nikki. He didn’t know how he was going to keep it. It was kind of impossible.

    Nikki and Tyler talked almost every night after they ate dinner. Nikki was having trouble with school. It was because Nikki always had trouble with understanding math. Nikki and Tyler did their homework every night together. After they got off the phone Tyler went down stairs. He heard his mom talking to his dad. They were saying that there was going to be a bridge built to connect the east and west shore ways.

    Tyler ran up to his room and closed the door. He was so happy that there was going to be a bridge built. It meant that it was going to be easier to see Nikki.

    Tyler learned everything he could about the bridge. He went around asking everybody he could to tell him more information on it. He found out that the company that was going to build it was Wilbur Watson and Associates. That the name of the bridge was going to the Main Avenue Bridge and that it was a Metal Riveted Cantilever Deck Truss, Stationary.

    The first day of construction, Tyler was there watching them. He was so excited that it opened in about a year and that he would be able to see Nikki. The days went by fast and then the opening of the bridge was just 2 days away. Tyler couldn’t wait to see his best friend again.

    The days went by fast and now it was time for Tyler to see Nikki. As Tyler and his mom walked over the bridge together, Tyler was getting nervous. It has been over a year since they have seen each other and what if Nikki found someone to replace him.

    As soon as Tyler seen Nikki though he knew he was being silly. Nikki ran up and gave him a huge hug. They spent the whole day together, playing games, hanging on the tree in the Nikki’s backyard. Tyler even helped her with her math homework. And they did this every weekend since.
