B. Analyze geographical changes brought about by human activity using appropriate maps and other geographical data.
Things people have done to change physical features of Earth. (Ex. man-made structures)
In Dubai, one of the third largest man-made structures in the world exists. It is called “The Palms of Dubai” and is made possible by the Sheikh Mohammad, the prince of Dubai. The prince wanted to have a resort and living space on an island made in the form of palm trees. They started construction in June of 2001, and expected completion was set for late 2005 or early 2006. Dubai is famous for being one of the world’s leading oil producers. They are learning the importance of global warming and its effects, and are switching from an oil rich country to a tourist country. This project relates to the benchmark because a man-made island has changed the geographical features maps and pictures from space. Now maps will have to have the Palms of Dubai in their drawings in order to be accurate.
It works by having a light sensor. When the ligth sensor is broken, the light start to light up in sequence.
The materials we used are wood, arcylic, sand, foam core, LEDs, wires, logic gates, bread board.
It interacts with the outside system by having a light sensor which reflects off a mirror. When it is broken, that is when the lights began to light up.

The benchmark that is being addressed is analyzing geographical changes brought about by human activity using appropraite maps and other geographic data. The way that this image of a palm tree relates to the benchmark is because the image is of an island that was man-made. The name of the island is the Palm Jumeirah. The island is located in the United Arab Emitates. The United States and the United Arab Emitates have an enduring partnership. The construction on the palms began in June of 2001 and was expected to be complete by late 2005 or early 2006. The government of Dubai is a federation. A federation is when specified powers delegated to the United Arab Emitates federal government and other powers reserved to member emirates. Dubai is considered the world’s fastest growing city.
The reason that Palm Jumeirah was made was because the prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad, wanted to become a tourist rich country. When the motion detector is set off, the LEDs in the image lights up from bottom to top in sequence. It starts off with the blue LEDs and then each branch of the Palm Tree lights up. The last thing that will light up would be the green ring that is around the Palm Tree. It will blink every 5 seconds with 1 secound in between each blink. The green LEDs that are in the ring is to show how they want to come from a oil rich country to a tourist rich country. The sand that is on the image shows how the island was made. They threw rocks and sand into the water to create the shape of the island. Yellow LEDs are around the Palm Tree to represent sand; blue for the water that surrounds the island; and green to represent sustainability and how they came from an oil rich country to a tourist rich country.
The Palm Jumeirah is a geographical cahnge brought about by human activity. The changed maps whe the Palm Jumeirah was made to make it correct.

The palms of Dubai,
Under the clear blue skies,
The sand deep gold,
No sign of oil,
A tourist rich country,
Was made for the prince of Dubai,
Trying to be more sustainable.
Being green is what he means,
So they made the palms of Dubai,
To become a tourist country.
Green is the color, with blue and yellow,
The resort is there to make people mellow
Sustainability and being green is what the prince means.
1. What is going well?
We are both working hard and are on the same page of the project.
2. What is not going well?
We are not at the build part of the project which we want to be at.
3. What do you need to do to make sure that you meet all of you deadlines?
We need to finish our drawings and change what we need to. Also, we need to start to build our box and our logic tables. Another thing is keeping the pace that we have set right now.
4. What is your overall impression of the project?
My overall impression is that it is interesting and it is making us use our brains and work hard. We need to think outside the box and use creativity.
5. If you had to rate your own progress, what score would you give yourself? (1-5) 5 being the highest.
I would give myself a 4 because I am working hard but in the beginning I was working a little slow but then I catched up so that we are now both are working on the same thing.
