I have been volunteering with the IUPUI Honors College as a freshman peer mentor since Fall 2012, and I was selected to serve as a mentor leader for 2014-15. As a mentor, I work individually with one or two freshmen students each year to help with their academic, social, and personal transitions to college. As a mentor leader, I worked with Honors College faculty and a group of other leaders to plan events, evaluate and improve the program, and facilitate discussion between the 40 peer mentors in the program and the freshmen they work with. Due to time constraints, I voluntarily stepped down from my position as a mentor leader for the spring semester, but I still plan to stay involved with the program and work with new freshmen "mentees" for the 2015-16 year.
