Welcome!

My name is Coty Wardwell and I am a graduate physical therapy student at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.  I graduated from Ithaca College with my bachelor's degree in clinical health studies in May of 2012 and expect to graduate with my doctor of physical therapy degree in August of 2014.  I have completed two of four clinical affiliations in an urban subacute rehab facility and a rural outpatient orthopaedic private practice.  My personal interests include traveling, hiking, playing the piano, and volunteering for the American Cancer Society.  My professional interests include manual therapy, technology, management, and being an American Physical Therapy Association member, as well as an Orthopaedic Section member.

Although I change my mind about minor details of my life frequently, two aspects remain stagnant.  I will explore foreign cultures and I will help others.  I believe that traveling and seeing different parts of the world is not only recreational, but it gives one a greater sense of self and more of a perspective on social issues.  Understanding different people and their cultures broadens minds and makes one more connected with the world.  If we have seen and understand others' lifestyles, we can interact with them on another level--something that is vital in healthcare in the United States today.

As I work hard to complete my DPT, I aspire to become a confident and culturally competent health care professional whom any patient or client can depend on to help restore a high quality of daily life.  I will achieve this by reflecting on how my courses relate to each other and apply to patient/client care, visiting other parts of the USA and other countries, learning from my clinical instructors on affiliation, keeping up on current topics in physical therapy, maintain membership with the American Physical Therapy Association, and always practicing professionally and ethically.
