3.4.11 Academic program coordination

For each major in a degree program, the institution assigns responsibility for program coordination, as well as for curriculum development and review, to persons academically qualified in the field.  In those degree programs for which the institution does not identify a major, this requirement applies to a curricular area or concentration.

Non-Compliance

For the most part, inspection of the roster of the academic program coordinators indicates a close correspondence between the academic credentials and/or work experience of the coordinator and the program for which they are responsible. There were, however, a few exceptions that appear to warrant further inspection including:

Educational Theory and Practice – the Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction is headed by an individual with a Masters degree in Mathematics.

French Studies –PhD and MA degree program coordinated by individual with a doctorate in English Language and Literature/letters.

Geography – The program coordinator for the PhD, MS and BS degrees holds a doctoral degree in Agricultural Engineering along with experience in Climatology/meteorology.

 

LSU A&M’s Response

The SACSCOC Off-site Committee found that the credentials of the different coordinators for the 199 degree programs were largely appropriate. They state that:

They did request additional information on three individual coordinators [1]. Two of the coordinators had either missing or incorrect credential information. There is additional justification for the third program coordinator in Geography [1].
