Compliance Status
Louisiana State University and A&M College is in compliance with this principle.
Narrative
Louisiana State University and A&M College (LSU), the flagship research institution of the State of Louisiana, is one of four higher education institutions, two health science centers, and a law center within the Louisiana State University System. As specified in Louisiana Revised Statute 17:3301, the organizational structure of the LSU System is determined by the LSU Board of Supervisors [1]. Moreover, the board is responsible for establishing procedures for the selection and appointment of major administrative officers within the LSU System [1].
Delineation of Responsibilities
As outlined in Article VII: Rights, Duties, and Responsibilities of Principal Administrative Officers of the University System of the LSU System Bylaws & Regulations, the president serves as executive head of the system and is responsible for establishing administrative policies and procedures and implementing educational policies, among other duties [2]. Article VII also assigns primary administrative responsibility to the chancellor to include effective execution of all laws relative to the system; all resolutions, policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the board for the administration and operation of the system and governance of its campuses; and all policies, rules, regulations, directives, and memoranda issued by the president [2].
Clearly Defined Organizational Structure
LSU Policy Statement 50: Responsibilities and Concerns of University Personnel clearly defines the roles and functions of the university’s personnel. Specifically, PS 50 delineates the responsibilities of the faculty, students, non-academic staff, and members of the university administration, including the chancellor, executive vice chancellor and provost, vice chancellor for Finance and Administrative Services and Comptroller, vice chancellor for Research and Economic Development (formerly for Research and Graduate Studies) vice chancellor for Student Life and Academic Services, vice chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, academic deans, and department chairs/heads [3].
Publication of Organizational Charts
Organizational charts of the LSU System [4] and of LSU are published on their respective Websites [5]. The charts are reviewed on a regular basis, specifically as part of the annual update of the LSU General Catalog [6], and updated as any changes occur. More specific organizational charts for individual units across the campus are also available on their respective Websites. See, for example, the organizational charts for the offices of Research and Economic Development [7], Finance and Administrative Services [8], and the Division of Student Life and Enrollment [9].
