2.7.4 Course work for Degrees

The institution provides instruction for all course work required for at least one degree program at each level at which it awards degrees. If the institution does not provide instruction for all such course work and (1) makes arrangements for some instruction to be provided by other accredited institutions or entities through contracts or consortia or (2) uses some other alternative approach to meeting this requirement, the alternative approach must be approved by the Commission on Colleges. In both cases, the institution demonstrates that it controls all aspects of its educational program. Compliance Status

Louisiana State University and A&M College is in compliance with this principle.

Narrative

Louisiana State University and A&M College (LSU) offers baccalaureate degrees in 70 major fields, master’s degrees in 76 major fields, doctoral (PhD) degrees in 47 major fields, and professional doctoral degrees in music and veterinary medicine. Courses available for each of the degree programs and course descriptions are published in the LSU General Catalog and School of Veterinary Medicine website [1] [2] [3]. LSU provides instruction for all course work for each of the degrees it awards, with the exception of the BA in Theatre degree program’s concentration in film and television, in which courses are offered through a memorandum of understanding with the Baton Rouge Community College [4]. Additional information on the relationship of consortial agreements to course work is presented in Comprehensive Standard 3.4.7.

In order to demonstrate that LSU offers all of the courses necessary for at least one degree program at each level, the following table includes a sample degree program, with its associated course work, and, for each level, a redacted transcript of a recent graduate whose program included courses taken exclusively at LSU.
