Hello! My name is Mr. West and I teach 5th grade at Orchard Park Elementary. I am very happy to be a part of the OPE community and look forward to an awesome year!

I have been an educator for 15 years. After graduating from the University of Southern Indiana in 2001 with a degree in Elementary Education, I started my teaching career in Nashville, Tennessee. I taught 5th grade Social Studies at Ewing Park Middle School for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

After my first year of teaching, I decided to pack up and move to Las Vegas, Nevada and taught grades 2 and 3 from 2002 to 2005 for Clark County School District. While teaching in Las Vegas, I attended the University of Phoenix and received a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Administration and Supervision.

In the summer of 2005, I moved to Indianapolis and began teaching 6th and 7th grade Math at Andrew J. Brown Academy, a charter school in Indianapolis. I also spent the 2 years at Andrew J. Brown Academy teaching 3rd grade. In the summer of 2008, I gladly accepted a 5th grade teaching position for Carmel-Clay Schools at Orchard Park Elementary School.

There are many things I like to do during my free time. I enjoy watching sports with friends, golfing, reading, movies, and exercising. I also like to spend time with my wonderful wife Chrissy and our daughters Lucy Jane and Quinn Catherine.

I am very happy to be here at OPE and look forward to the many challenges ahead!
