PERSUASION FINAL ACTIVITY DAY 3
Objective: SWBAT demonstrate their knowledge of persuasive techniques visually and verbally through a final project.
Materials: Butcher paper, scissors, colored paper, markers, colored pencils, tape, glue, stapler, glitter, Camera, Videotape
Adaptations/Modifications: Check for understanding frequently with all students due to ELL status. Kari (IEP) to pre-teach material, reinforce vocabulary, and extend time for homework up to two days. Erika (IEP) extended time, regular breaks, quiet setting for testing, and shortened assignments. Brianna has the option to test in an alternative environment.
Literacy: Students will work in groups to create a written commercial script. Students will reflect in writing about the group process.
Set: I will address students’ responses in their quick write yesterday, clearing up any misconceptions, concerns, or questions. I will also take the time to thank students to thoughtfully writing their responses to me. (5 min)
Application: “I know that you are all anxious to finish working on your project and begin recording your commercials. I just have a few directions. When you are finished with your project, please come and let me know. In about 15 minutes I will begin recording students, so please let me know if you finish ahead of time. For those of you who do finish and are waiting, in your black notebook I want you to be writing a reflection to me answering the following questions:
I will write these questions up on the white board for students to see. Students will be working on their projects and I will walk around to facilitate. After 15 minutes I will begin recording the commercials out in the hallway. Mrs. Brown will be in the classroom to answer questions and monitor the students. (40 min).
Evaluation: Students will be working on the reflection in their response notebooks throughout the class period.
Closing: “Great! It looks like each group had a chance to record their commercial. I will be making these into movies tonight, and we will watch them tomorrow as a group. If you did not finish your reflection, please take it home and finish it tonight. I will be checking to make sure they are done tomorrow for homework. Thanks!” (5 min)
Reflection:
Today was crazy hectic! Some students were ready, others were scrambling to get things finished. Overall, we at least got everything recorded. If I were to teach this again, I would give them one more day to work on this project, recording half the groups on one day, and half on the next. I also require less as far as the facts/opinion requirements, as this seemed to be cumbersome and too much for this age level.
