Standard:

EL.06.RE.09 Understand, learn, and use new vocabulary that is introduced and taught directly through informational text, literature text, and instruction across content area.

 

I will be able to learn, understand, and use vocabulary related to persuasion and argumentation.

I will use context clues and other strategies to determine the meaning of words that I do not understand.

 

Concepts: Persuasion, vocabulary

 

Essential Questions:

  • How can we use context clues to determine what this word means?
  • What are some strategies to determine the meaning of an unknown word?
  • What words do we use when we want to persuade someone?
  • Do we use different words when we want to persuade different audiences?

 

Standard:

EL.06.WR.26 Write persuasive compositions:

-State a clear position on a proposition or proposal

-Support the position with organized and relevant evidence

-Anticipate and address reader concerns and counter arguments

 

I will choose one side of an argument and back up why I chose it.

I will provide evidence for my argument.

I will address counter arguments to my position.

  • What does position mean in relation to persuasion?
  • How can you support your position?
  • What is the difference between fact and opinion?
  • What are counter arguments that someone might pose?
