Standard 5.2 Collaboration with families, colleagues, and community agencies

All people involved in the life of a student are imperative to a student's performance and education. Collaboration with families is very important because families can be a large influence on the children. If there is an open communication with families, and families know what the teacher is expecting, then families can help the students be successful. Working with families can lead to knowledge about students and can be beneficial to help teachers be able to create expectations for their students. By using parent letters and flyers, families can stay informed and feel involved in their children's lives at school.

Parent Letter

Hello Blackboard (Lg.)

Attached is a parent letter that I used to send to the parents at an Elementary school to inform them about my practicum experience in their children's classroom. I find that it is very beneficial and important to maintain a positive relationship with parents or guardians and keep them updated about anything new going on in the classroom. This letter was created in Microsoft Word. Letters can be used for any purpose and are a great way to inform families about any new updates in the classroom. Any upcoming events, changes in scheduling, special celebrations and updates can all be expressed through a letter and are a way to reach out to families.

Creating Flyers for Education

student_of_the_day.jpg

The purpose of this flyer is to create and maintain a collaborative work environment with families, other colleges and community agencies in order to condone to the social, emotion and physical growth of children. Included in this section is a certificate for Student of The Day Award that I have created using a template with Microsoft Power Point for a first grade class. Collaboration with families, colleagues, and community agencies was met by this certificate because it is a way for families to see their children's progress and accomplishments each day in the school environment.  Sending educational certificates and awards home to children's families will benefit children because their teachers are promoting and encouraging students to do their best and excel each day in their efforts and achievements. It is imperative for educators to collaborate with families, colleagues, and community agencies in order to achieve goals and to promote dedication for the students. The students can be excited by their achievements and will want to continue to impress their parents.

At Groton Elementary School, the students get a chance to be student of the day each day and the host teacher I am working with wanted to be able to send a certificate home with the students. My host teacher used this flyer in her first grade classroom because there is a Student of the Day each day in the classroom. The students who were student of the day were able to take home the flyer and show their families. Learning objectives were met because the students were able to utilize this tool and the teacher incorporated the certificate into her teaching system. To make use of this certificate easier, the teacher could pre-make the flyer with all of the students names already on it so the teacher didn't have to edi and print the flyer every single day.
