Teaching Module

As part of my Neuroscience Lab Capstone course, a small group created a teaching module that would be presented to introductory neuroscience courses. The purpose of these modules was to critically think about how we have learned as undergraduates in our science classes and how we can present what we know in an effective manner to other students. The four person small group that I was in created our teaching module over anxiety disorders. It is a hybrid module, meaning that there is an online portion that the students watched at home and took notes over, and a classroom portion where the students created small groups and participated in group activities. As the dynamics of university teaching are changing and technology is becoming more prominent, the methods that a professor can manipulate are expanding. This teaching module was a unique method for our capstone class to demonstrate alternate methods for teaching.

This is our online portion of our teaching module.

To determine how effective this form of teachnig was, the teaching module was presented to a class at IUPUI and the students took a pre- and post-test to measure what information was retained after using the module. The students also completed a survey at the end of the module that informed us on topics such as how effective the module was and if online learning is preferred. The student results from the tests and the survery were evaluated and used to create a poster presentation which is included below.
