Neuroscience BS

I decided to pursue a degree in Neuroscience at IUPUI because the program was new at IUPUI and continuously growing. The program includes courses in biology, chemistry, and psychology which all together create a dynamic schedule.  The Neuroscience degree program at IUPUI helps prepare students for graduate programs and careers in science and medical fields.

This field of study has helped harbor skills in research. A lab component was required for Organic Chemistry I and II, Genetics, Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physics I and II. These courses helped provide a foundation for research, such as staining techniques, cell cultures, enzyme assays, product synthetization, and the use of animals. Recording the data in an efficient and logical manner, as well as data processing, was also a requirement of each laboratory course. Through these various classes within the Neuroscience degree program, I have gained invaluable research skills that can apply to future careers. Below are a few examples of write-ups from various labs.

Genetics Drosophola melanogaster

This report was created after individual data was collected on the frequency of recombination of certain alleles in three generations of fruit flies. This experiment involved catagorizing, sorting, and breeding fruit flies with desired alleles and collecting the data of the offspring. This data was completed individually and in collaboration with others.

Journal Article

This project was created to replicate a scientific journal article. Each group consisted of three members that completed three seperate chemical reactions to determine the product. The reaction mechanism and chemicals had to be discovered by each group and the reaction had to yield a substantial amount of product. This project helped evaluate our ability to understand and create chemical mechanisms as well as present the data in a efficient and appealing manner.
