How I maximized instructional time

Because of the interruptions throughout the day for various activities, such as computer lab, intervention, P.E., and library, I had to utilize my time wisely. To maximize instructional time, I checked every morning to make sure I had all supplies needed for each lesson. I arrived at school early so that I could set up the classroom for students. For example, for daily math work, students receive purple folders that contain their daily/weekly math sheet(s) and their Super Speed Math documents. I placed each set of folders on the first five rows so that when students came into class, all they had to do was put their book sacks away, take out two pencils, and begin working on daily math while waiting for pencils to be sharpened and bathroom break. In addition to this, as soon as the classroom door opened and students started walking in, a 60-second timer was started on the Smart board. Students knew when the 60 seconds was up, they should be seated, settled, and working on math.
