I am soon to be a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Instructional Design & Technology program at Walden University. What initially attracted me to this exciting field of study was my passion life-long learning, and my combined background in art and commercial design, computer sciences and technology, and academia.
From 2000-2003, I was enrolled in a three-year Art & Design for Business/Commercial Art course at a technical trade school. It was there that I developed a sense of design and how it affects our daily lives. I learned many technical aspects of design, including tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and coupled that with insights into the psychology of art, color, design, and branding.
After graduating that program, I joined the Air Force Reserves and worked in Supply and Logistics. I have served in overseas rotations and deployments supplying C-130s and U2 spy planes. My experiences gave me a deeper appreciation of technology as well as constructed systems and processes, and I began a career in information technology. I have worked full-time for companies such as Hewlett-Packard and dbaDIRECT/LUCRUM, as well as long-term contracts with Xerox and Proter & Gamble, troubleshooting and repairing customer equipment and maintaining software, hardware, and basic network functions.
My roles as in NCO in the military as well as a desktop analyst in which I provided support to various people impressed upon me the need for designing effective means of helping people to learn with and through the use of technology, which has lead me to instructional design. My academic experience at the University of Cincinnati and Walden University helped me to further advance my skills and understanding with design elements, technology, and the psychology of learning, group dynamics, web design, the ADDIE model, and much more. I have recently moved to Nashville, TN, where I look forward to finding new opportunities that will allow me to further define these skills, and continue to help others learn and grow in their respective fields of expertise.
