Philosophy of Education

I believe that every child can and will learn.  Children are born to learn, and by all accounts, they enjoy the process.  Children have a right to continue to show creativity, curiosity, and a questionning nature as they enter school.  I believe in a constructivist approach to learning, developmental learning, and progressive education.  I utilize a variety of teaching methods including Inquiry, Concept Formation, and Differentiated Instruction.  For learning to be deep, I believe it must be relevant to the student.  I deliver integrated, thematic instruction that builds up to a culminating event; which then becomes the foundation for another.

My dog-eared reference set includes works by:

  • Chip Wood
  • Jim Grant
  • The Responsive Classroom Series
  • Lev Vygotsky
  • Jerome Bruner
  • Alfie Kohn
  • Richard Gentry
  • Haim Gainott
  • Jean Piaget
  • Patty Wipfler
