Unwrapping the ISLLC Standards

a) Cooperative Learning Community:

i) In Modules 2-7, student groups will develop a detailed analysis of each of the 6 ISLLC 2008 Standards, one per module.

(a) Knowledge - Nouns denote topics/concepts or knowledge.

(b) Skills - Verbs delineate skills. Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy to generate higher order verbs is suggested. Follow each skill with a notation as to the ISLLC 2008 function that is represented by that skill, e.g. (ISLLC 2008: 1A).

(d) Essential Questions – What are the essential questions that focus an administrator’s knowledge and abilities in this standard?

(a) Knowledge Indicators

(b) Disposition Indicators

Individual Reflection Essay

Write an essay of 1250-1500 words describing how the ISLLC 2008 Standards pertain to leadership behavior at the institution where you work or where you intend to work. Consider the following:

(1) Identify and describe 3 major challenges facing the leadership at your school and the ISLLC standards they reflect. Propose possible solutions based on the ISLLC standards.

(2) What is the purpose of the standards and how do they impact that educational community?

(3) Additionally, reflect upon the process of unwrapping the standards. Write a 250 word reflection for each of the unwrapped standards in Modules 2-7. What issues came to the surface and how did the group respond to them? What do you foresee as the value of this process to your own principalship one day?

iii) Use standard essay format in APA style, including an introduction, conclusion, and title page. An abstract is not required. Cite in-text and in the References section.

Submit the unwrapped standards documents (charts), process reflections (modules 2-7), and the essay as one deliverable.

Specified Standards

The purpose of this assignment is to gain comprehensive knowledge of the six Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium's (ISLLC) standards that guide educational programs and educational leadership within schools.

USA- ISLLC Educational Leadership Policy Standards 2008

Standard: Standard 1: An education leader promotes the success of every student by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by all stakeholders

Function: A. Collaboratively develop and implement a shared vision and mission.

Function: B. Collect and use data to identify goals, assess organizational effectiveness, and promote organizational learning

Function: C. Create and implement plans to achieve goals

Function: D. Promote continuous and sustainable improvement

Function: E. Monitor and evaluate progress and revise plans

Standard: Standard 2: An education leader promotes the success of every student by advocating, nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.

Function: A. Nurture and sustain a culture of collaboration, trust, learning, and high expectations

Standard: Standard 5: An education leader promotes the success of every student by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.

Function: A. Ensure a system of accountability for every student’s academic and social success

Function: B. Model principles of self-awareness, reflective practice, transparency, and ethical behavior

Function: C. Safeguard the values of democracy, equity, and diversity

Function: D. Consider and evaluate the potential moral and legal consequences of decision-making
