Investigating the incidence and morphology of Gantzer's muscle using cadaveric specimens.  Gantzer's muscle is an accessory muscle in the forearm that is present in some individuals.  It's distal attachment is commonly onto flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and less commonly onto flexor digitorum profundus (FDP).  The principle investigators hypothesize that the incidence of this muscle is underestimated in the literature.  This study has clinical implications for physicians that treat thumb-in-palm deformities with injections of onabotulinumtoxinA.  The results from treatment might not always yield the desired results possibly due to the influence of Gantzer's muscle on FPL which subsequently affects thumb function.  The co-investigator on this project is Dr. Sherry Downie at Einstein Medical College.
