Evaluating Websites

Keep Your Eyes Open

DO NOT FALL VICTIM OF HOAX WEBSITES!!

Hoax websites are designed to resemble real websites to make viewers believe that the information is true. Although the hoax websites may look real, there are some key features that a person can look for to distinguish a hoax website from a real website. You cannot believe everything that you read on the internet! When going on websites it is important to check the credibility of the author and the date because old stories do not always pertain to current news in the world. The listed sources, overall tone of the website, and the headline are three more important key features to look at when on websites to determine if it is real or a hoax.

Bri's Identifying Hoaxs Criteria:

  • Does the website URL begin with https?
  • Is there contact information on the page for your questions/concerns?
  • Does the graphics match the topic of the page?
  • Is there any grammatical errors?
  • Check the website reviews!
