This semester I participated in the MLK Day of Service on January 25,2014. Through this day of service I was able to volunteer at the Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library. As part of my service I sorted books that members of the Ithaca community donated for the semiannual book sale that this organization holds. The proceeds from the book sales benefit the Tompkins County Public Library, the Finger Lakes Library System and organizations working for literacy in Tompkins County. When we first arrived at the site I was overwhelmed by the amount of books I saw and it seemed like a daunting task to have to sort each book by genre. It was difficult at first, but after getting to know all the different sections and genres it became easier. It took a lot of work, but it was satisfying in the end to know we helped them sort books faster than they would have been able to if we weren't there.
