Greetings!
My name is Marjorie and I am currently an Adult Education teacher for the City of Charlottesville, Virginia where I teach seven core subjects to adults who are studying to pass the State of Virginia GED exam. Prior to this, I was a mathematics and science teacher for several years in high school and middle school. And before I became a teacher, I was a packaging engineer and purchasing agent for a industrial packaging supplier of corrugated and plastic shipping containers in Detroit, MI. Due to the economic downturn of the automotive industry in Detroit, my employer (as had so many others) closed the business. After many attempts at trying to pursue my career in packaging, I decided to reinvent myself as a mathematics and science teacher and took a teaching position in Virginia. Since I have always been detail-oriented and creative, I found that Instructional Design and Technology was the next sensible step in my education and career.
Today, as society becomes technology-driven, I am excited that technology is becoming increasingly important in education. Throughout this program, I have learned that technology, when used appropriately, is effective tool in education not only as a delivery platform but as a means to differentiate instruction to serve the various learning styles of all students. In addition to this, the interactive challenges that technology offers makes learning fun and helps students develop a deep understanding of challenging concepts through inquiry and exploration. The combination of my experiences as a teacher and an engineer with my new level of knowledge and Master's degree, I am confident that I will make an excellent instructional designer. With these new tools I am eager to evolve to the next progression of my career; to become a better teacher as well as a more effective communicator.
