Content: I created this class webpage in Spring of 2007, in 3750, Integrating Technology into the Classroom, under the instruction of Jeff Goodman. This webpage is an excellent way to communicate information with my students, parents, and other educators.
Impact: This webpage will be very useful to me as a teacher, because it enables me to communicate with my students, their parents, and other educators. The webpage itself has areas specifically designed for my students. It also has a homework page and a calendar. These tools will be helpful to my students in case they forget to write down their assignment, or are wondering when a particular event is coming up. In addition to being useful to my students, it is also helpful for parents who are interested in staying involved in their child's education. Parents will be able to look at the homework page to see what their child should be doing, and what he/she is learning at school.
Alignment: The production of my class webpage helped me meet many standards.
Nets-T Standards:
Standard II: Teachers plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology
B - Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environment and experiences.
I met this standard by providing web links on my webpage. There are links for parents, teachers, and other students. Also, for the media survey, I located articles that are related to the impact that media has on children.
C - Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.
I provided annotated websites for parents and students. The websites for students include fun research sites and locations for educational games. One of these sites helps students with their problem solving skills.
E - Plan stratagies to manage student learning in a technology - enhanced environment.
This standard was met because on my webpage, I provide a calendar and homework page. These will enable my students to stay caught up with the goings on of the classroom. If a child were to miss a day, the webpage would be a perfect way for them to know what they missed.
Standard IV: Teachers apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaulation strategies.
B - Use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.
A component of my webpage is the media survey that was conducted in my 3rd/4th grade classroom. For this survey, I gathered information about my student's opinions of television and 'beauty'. This research assignment helped me meet this standard.
Standard V: Teachers use technology to enhance professional practice
A - Use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
A major part of this webpage consists of research that has been done in order to find articles and webpages. The search that was conducted in order to find these sites helped me to develop professionally. It brought to my attention more things that I may not have thought about previously. Since this webpage is an ongoing thing, it will be constantly changing, and therefore will result in my lifelong learning.
B - Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to help you learn and develop professionally
As was previously mentioned, this webpage will be continually changing. As a result of this constant renovation, I will continue to develop professionally. Posting my media survey results, pictures of my students, and things that will benefit my students (hw, calendar) help me to maintain a good professional practice.
D - Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community, in order to nurture student learning.
The webpage has a segment that is devoted solely to the students in my classroom. It will be a place where they can come to catch up on assignments, see what is going on or will be going on in the next week/month, and to check out cool websites that I have posted for them. Another section is completely devoted to parents. They too will be able to see what is going on in the classroom, but also will have websites that are specific to their needs. This webpage will open the doors for any discussions that the parents feel they need to have with me, and will make them more involved in the lives of their students.
Standard VI: Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology in PK-12 schools and apply those principles in practice.
A - Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use
In order to maintain good ethical awareness, I was sure to include student release forms for my students in both english and spanish. These release forms state that I am allowed to put pictures of students on educational websites.
C - Identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity
The Spanish and English media release forms affirm diversity by making sure that both languages are able to make the same decision regarding their child. They will be able to understand what they are signing, and therefore ensure equality for all involved.
