Context: This is a lesson plan that was created for a first grade class. It was taught Spring of 2008, during my student teaching experience, under the guidance of Ms. Carrie Franklin. This lesson plan focuses on plants, the parts of a plant, and the life cycle of a plant.

Competency Goal 2: The learner will use non-standard units of measure and tell time. Alignment: This standard was met through the teaching of the "Parts of a plant" lesson plan. In this lesson plan, students learn the life cycle of a plant, the various things a plant needs to live and grow (water, soil, sunlight, etc.), and can label the various parts of a plant. Through this lesson, students learn the structure of plants, growth of organisms, characteristics of living things, and life cycles.
