Thesis: “Chicago’s Engine Company 21: An Experiment with Interracial Democracy in an Era of Reconstructions, 1872-1927”

I am interested in late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century African American history with a special focus on Reconstruction and representations of African Americans in popular culture.  I am particularly interested in studying the way that Reconstruction unfolded outside the South, especially in Chicago.

My broader historical interests include public history as well as material and visual culture.
