MURI

After working on the Your Life. Your Story. project through LHSI, I was fortunate to stay working with Dr. Bigatti through the Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Institute (MURI). My favorite part about YLYS has been the opportunity to take a leadership role with the mentoring training and management for Your Life. Your Story. Each participant of YLYS was paired with a college-aged mentor from IUPUI for the yearlong experience. The first year of the program expectations were not clearly defined. I have had experience with mentoring programs in the past, so I was happy to take charge of creating a more specific manual for the guidelines of the mentoring aspect of the program for the second year of camp.

With the guidance of my mentors and my previous experiences, I designed two of four training days to create the desired environment among mentors and between mentors and mentees. I had a previous mentor of mine assist me with facilitating the training days to better tackle explaining the unique commodity that mentoring is. Dr. Medina, my mentor for MURI, took the lead on the other two training days, which focused on her expertise of cultural competency and adolescent behavior.

At the MURI poster session, my presentation centered on the curriculum development of the training for the YLYS mentors. See the attachments below for more information and click on the fullscreen button below to more clearly view the slideshow of the mentor training days I led last spring.
