Project 4 Movie Making & You Tube

Movie Making & You Tube

This vocabulary based project was exciting for me as an  adult; I can imagine the fun that children will have as they research higher order vocabulary words which often times may have quirky sounds or meanings.  The children will then create a written skit to accompany their dramatic work and utilize digital camcorders to record their progress.  I have been encouraged to come to the proverbial edge of technological learning though this project as I ventured into the itunes, and imovie genres of our digital age.  I am grateful to have worked with two wonderful partners that are a bit more tech' savy than I was in the beginning of this course. I believe that their willingness to allow me the exploratory time I needed to be comfortable with the concepts without falling off the edge,  encouraged me to jump off of the edge, without fear of alienation or embarrassment. I am glad that I have had this experience.

iMovie Vocabulary Project

Creators/Authors of the Media Project are Caitlin Evans, Darcy Barber, and Mark Schaffhouser of SUNY Cortland Block 1 Section 601 Spring 2011.  The identified grade level for this type of media project are Elementary grades 2-6.
Technology and English Language Arts and The Arts are integrated in this type of media project as the students learn about and use the digital technology, explore a larger vocabulary and apply it's usage appropriately, and create and edit their own short movie.  The objectives of this project is to make a movie and then upload it to YouTube and to be familiar with the following technical skills; using a camcorder, knowing the basics and the process of movie making using iMovie, and using a Mac proficiently with both platforms.
I feel that children's learning will be enhanced as they use the tools of technology that they are already familiar with such as the camcorder and the YouTube site.  Problem solving skills are evident as the students plan, document and create their iMovie into a sequential and meaningful piece of work.
