Standard Four

Rationale

Context:

Standard 4 is valuable in teaching social studies in kindergarten through sixth grade. It was created at Appalachian State University under the advisement of Dr. Claire Mamola, Elementary Education Block II instructor. I completed this assignment as a requirement for CI-3110, Elementary Social Studies Methods.

The Standard 4 assignment is an elaboration of how I have met majority of NCDPI Elementary Education Specialty Area Standard 4: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in social studies. The indicators have a belief description of how college history classes I have taken at Wilkes Community College and Appalachian State University assist in becoming a better social studies teacher.

Impact:

The Standard 4 assignment is an excellent teaching tool for teachers to elaborate on how they have learned social studies topics that are taught in North Carolina’s elementary schools such as world cultures, social science, economic concepts, history, political science, and geography.

The Standard 4 assignment is beneficial to students because it allows teachers to realize that they have learned various social studies topics in college classes and fully understand how to teach those topics to their students.

Alignment:

The Alignment for this assignment can be found in the Word document attachment titled Standard 4.
