Classroom Web Page

Rationale

Context:

During Student Teaching at Mountain View Elementary School, I created a classroom web page for my students and their parents.  I used TaskStream to create the web page and published it to the internet.  The address for the web page is:

http://www.taskstream.com/ts/barker9/ClassroomWebPage.html

For the protection of my students, the web site is password protected. The password can be acquired upon request.

The Classroom Web Page has links to the following, county and school events, a homework page, lunch menu, Mountain View Elementary School home page, and major projects completed within the classroom.

Impact:

I use the Classroom web site to notify students, parents, and other teachers of up coming events and assignments.  The web site provides a link titled “Homework” which provides students with their homework for the following subjects Language Arts, Spelling, and Social Studies.  The “Homework” link is updated daily, and each assignment has a brief description to help students and parents understand what is expected of them to complete the assignments.  I also list my e-mail address for any comments, concerns, or questions from students and parents.  The web site also has links for the major projects or events completed by the students such as the Constitution Week and the Renaissance Unit.  These links supply descriptions of each event including pictures of the students completing the assignments or artwork utilized in that particular event or project.

Alignment:

I met competency III A and C because the Classroom Web page enhances students experience with technology by working on their higher order thinking skills with the Quiz your Brain Page.

I met competency IIE because I can use this web page to manage my students' homework.  If a student is absent, he/she can look at our classroom web page to see what we did that day.

I met competency VA because I have created a web page that I will continue to use in my professional career.  I can subscribe to TaskStream each year and will be able to create additional web pages.

I met competency VIA because I sent out media release forms with my students in my student teaching classroom so that I could get permission to photograph them.  I made my web page password protected so that it can be viewed with permission only.

I met competency VIC because I included a media release form in Spanish for parents in my classroom who have English as a second language.
