Personal Wellness Management: KINS 1902 Fitness and Health: Enhancing Personal Wellness Fall 2007
Fitness and Health: Enhancing Personal Wellness was a course centered on the concepts of fitness, health, and nutrition. In this class information was presented to assist in wise decision making for a healthy lifestyle.
This artifact illustrates a behavior management plan. I chose to implement a personal wellness management plan to improve my weekly intake of fruits and vegetables. This personal wellness plan involved setting goals for myself and tracking information for a span of five weeks.
This artifact meets the competency to build a wellness program because the purpose of this project was to improve my quality of life and wellness. I took time to assess my life choices and decide which area of my existence needed improvement. I made an effort to increase the amounts of fruits and vegetables consumed in a week’s time, and after five weeks I certainly improved.
This artifact will be useful in a career in Physical Therapy because not only will I be working with individuals, but my goal will be to improve their quality of life. I will be able to reflect on this project and personal wellness management to hopefully help others make wise decisions towards living a healthy lifestyle.
My Fitness and Wellness: KINS 1581 Fitness through Select Acts Fall 2007
Fitness through select acts was a co-requisite with Fitness and Health: Enhancing Personal Wellness. This course was centered on fitness and fitness through different sporting activities. In this class I was able to experience a wide range of activities promoting fitness and sports.
This artifact is a representation of a work out log. Class was held two times a week; this artifact is a reflection and collection of my fitness activity on the third day of each week. My goals during this semester were to improve my strength and endurance levels for gymnastics purposes. I was able to track my efforts with the use of this work out log.
This artifact meets the competency to build a wellness program because the purpose of this log was to encourage physical activity on at least three days a week. I participated in physical activity two times a week in class and at least five days outside of class. I was able to follow a wellness program for myself; I feel in doing so I reached my goal and improved my level of strength and endurance for gymnastics purposes.
This artifact will be useful in a career in Physical Therapy because I will bring personal wellness experiences into the clinic; I will be able to personally explain the benefits of physical activity, fitness, and wellness. With this knowledge I will be able to assist in improving the lives of my patients and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Denton Detention Center Fitness Lesson Plans: KINS 2621 Motor and Aquatic APE Instructional Lab Fall 2008
The Motor and Aquatic APE Instruction Lab stemmed off of an Adapted Physical Education course. For this class I had the opportunity to have an internship at the Denton Detention Center. With this internship I was responsible for creating and implementing a fitness program for the females in the Post-Program at the detention center. I used the FITNESSGRAM to pre-test and post-test the individual in hopes of an improvement.
This artifact is a collection of the lesson plans and descriptions of each activity for the duration of 20 visits. Each visit was approximately one hour long. This artifact is a collection of work from myself and one other intern. We alternated creating lesson plans; I was responsible for combining all lesson plans and inserting the pictures. I included this artifact in my personal portfolio because a great deal of work and preparation went into creating an effective fitness program.
This artifact fully demonstrates my ability to build a fitness program because it was designed to increase the strength, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility of teenage females.
Creating this artifact and participating in the internship at the Denton Detention Center not only produced a source of personal growth and leadership for myself but it also allowed me to implement something of my own. I took personal pride in improving the fitness of the girls I was working with. It was an experience I would love to take part in again. I can knowledge from this artifact into a career in Physical Therapy. As a Physical Therapist I plan on creating fitness and rehabilitation programs for patients to improve their overall performance of daily living. This artifact provided practice for the future.
Reaction to the ACSM Position Stand: KINS 3602 Physiology of Exercise Spring 2008
Physiology of Exercise is a course designed to discuss the physiological effects of exercise upon the human body. In this course basic physiological principles were applied to relate the information to the field of kinesiology.
This artifact is my reaction to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Position Stand. The artifact required reading the position stand and creating a reflection based on my understanding of the piece as well as discussing topics that were new to me and/or different from what I expected.
This artifact meets the competency to build a fitness program because I am able to understand the information presented by the ACSM. The knowledge I learned from reading this piece is important to creating a fitness program because it discusses the recommended exercise frequency and intensity of different muscles groups to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
This artifact relates to Physical Therapy because Physical Therapy is not only a field that involves rehabilitation but it also involves fitness. Rehabilitation of an injury requires a set exercise program with specified frequencies and intensities.
